London Sherlock Holmes Museum
I have a theory that the reason we equate sepia tones with old photographs is not because of the photographs themselves, but because we imagine those antique interiors as they were at the time - lit by fireplaces, gas brackets, candles, oil lamps. The interior life of the Victorian Era was sepia. Sepia photographs are merely trying to evoke the experience of living by the light of a flame.
